PRINCIPAL ROLES
FRANCIS HENSHALL
Male, 20s–40s
A delightfully chaotic survivor
who accidentally finds himself employed by two different
“guvnors” at once. Hungry, impulsive, endlessly inventive, and
deeply human. Francis drives the play’s relationship with the
audience and requires exceptional comic timing, stamina,
improvisational confidence, and physical storytelling ability.
Seeking: A highly skilled comedic performer with
strong physical instincts, warmth, audience rapport, and
comfort with farce, clowning, and direct address.
RACHEL CRABBE / “ROSCOE”
Female, 20s–30s
Sharp, intelligent, emotionally
grounded. Rachel disguises herself as her deceased twin brother
Roscoe in order to retrieve money and escape to Australia with
Stanley. She must successfully navigate both danger and
absurdity while maintaining the emotional stakes of the play.
Seeking: A versatile actor with emotional depth, comic
control, and the ability to balance disguise, urgency, and
sincerity.
STANLEY STUBBERS
Male, 20s–40s
Rachel’s upper-class boyfriend.
Overly dramatic, romantic, nervous, and somewhat absurd.
Stanley lives emotionally at full volume and often spirals into
panic. Requires strong comic rhythm and specificity.
Seeking: Excellent verbal comedy, heightened emotional
commitment, and strong physical instincts.
PAULINE CLENCH
Female, 20s–30s
Charlie’s daughter. Passionate,
impulsive, romantic, stubborn, and smarter than she initially
appears. Pauline begins as a lovestruck ingénue but grows in
confidence and independence throughout the play.
Seeking: Strong comedic instincts paired with genuine
emotional grounding and energy.
ALAN DANGLE
Male, 20s–30s
Pauline’s fiancé. Earnest,
melodramatic, emotional, and hilariously overcommitted to
romance. Alan often treats ordinary moments as though he’s
starring in a tragic love story.
Seeking: Big emotional commitment, musicality of
language, and strong physical comedy.
CHARLIE “THE DUCK” CLENCH
Male, 50s–70s
A Brighton businessman with
criminal ties. Loud, practical, opportunistic, and deeply
invested in maintaining order — even when events spiral beyond
his control. A comic authority figure with genuine stakes.
Seeking: Excellent comic authority, command of
language, and strong ensemble instincts.
HARRY DANGLE
Male, 50s–70s
Alan’s father and Charlie’s
business associate. Pompous, old-fashioned, verbose, and
slightly detached from reality. A classic comic elder whose
confidence frequently exceeds his awareness.
Seeking: Strong character actor with precision timing
and comfort with heightened language.
DOLLY
Female, 20s–40s
Charlie’s bookkeeper.
Quick-witted, observant, flirtatious, politically aware, and
one of the smartest people in the room. Dolly sees through
everyone almost immediately.
Seeking: Strong comic confidence, intelligence, and
chemistry with Francis.
LLOYD BOATENG
Male, 40s–60s
Charlie’s friend and former
criminal associate. Practical, calm, grounded, and often
bemused by the absurdity around him. Provides balance amidst
the chaos.
Seeking: Warmth, steadiness, and understated comic
timing.
SUPPORTING / FEATURED ROLES
GARETH
Male, 20s–50s
Head waiter at the restaurant.
Professional, increasingly overwhelmed, and trapped inside one
of the most chaotic dinner services imaginable.
Seeking: Excellent physical comedy and precision
timing.
ALFIE
Male, 50s–80s
An elderly waiter. Slow-moving,
fragile-looking, but unexpectedly resilient. A major
contributor to the escalating disaster of the dinner scene.
Seeking: Strong physical comedy and confidence with
stylized farce.
THE BARMAN
Male, any age
Dry, practical pub worker who
watches the madness unfold around Francis.
TAXI DRIVER
Male, any age
Blunt, impatient, comic supporting
role.
PORTERS / WAITERS / POLICEMAN / ENSEMBLE
Multiple featured ensemble tracks. Ensemble performers will
help create the world of Brighton through physical
storytelling, transitions, crowd work, and supporting comic
sequences.
Seeking: Strong movers, physical comedians,
improvisers, and collaborative ensemble players comfortable
with stylized comedy and quick role shifts. Ability with
British dialects is a strong advantage!
